The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is teaming up with Shred-It and hosting its highly popular shredding event this Saturday to help citizens permanently destroy old or unwanted personal documents.
Folks interested in participating in the effort to help prevent identity theft can bring their old documents to have them shredded. The HCSO, in collaboration with Shred-It, will provide this service free of charge on Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 9 a.m. to noon at the HCSO Substation at 7900 Will Clayton Parkway in Humble.
Citizens may bring up to five regular size ‘banker’ boxes per vehicle.
Identity theft has become one of the costliest crimes in the nation. In addition to helping prevent thieves from physically getting their hands on the discarded personal and confidential information of others, Shred-It also helps by heightening general public awareness on how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft.
The HCSO holds several of these events throughout the year. About 5-10 thousand pounds of documents are shredded at each event.
