- According to the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department‘s (AVFD) run log, they responded to the Sunrise in Atascocita apartments this morning around 6:20 AM.
- AVFD worked the 4 alarm apartment fire with mutual aid from Houston Fire Department, Eastex Fire Department, Northeast Fire and Rescue, Crosby Volunteer Fire Department, Sheldon Community Fire and Rescue, Aldine Fire Rescue, Westfield Fire Department, and Huffman Fire Department.
- It took over two hours to get the fire under control.
- Two minor injuries.
- Early reports indicate the fire was started by a lightning strike.
Firefighters from the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department responded to an early morning blaze at the Sunrise Apartment Complex. Nearly 100 responders battled the 4 alarm fire that has displaced over 50 residents.
According to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office the fire is believed to have been started by a lightening strike.
The American Red Cross is on location with the families at the Atascocita United Methodist Church.
